The Bridge Home
Ames, IA • 2024

Summary
The Bridge Home Project, led by Ames Shelter Services in partnership with Front Porch Development, is a new emergency shelter and housing facility designed to bridge the gap between homelessness and permanent housing. This 25,000-square-foot development provides shelter, supportive services, and long-term housing solutions for individuals and families in need.
As an addition to the existing facility, the project includes 18 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, offering safe and stable housing for those transitioning out of homelessness.
This was truly a collaborative effort; The Bridge Home Project was made possible through a partnership of public and private entities. Local philanthropic organizations and Iowa Trust & Savings Bank provided financial support, while Home Shelter Services, Inc. is both the general partner and property manager. The project was designed by Align Architecture + Planning, with Kiernan Development & Construction and Front Porch Development leading the build.
Public funding was provided by the Iowa Finance Authority – National Housing Trust Fund, the City of Ames, and the Iowa Department of Economic Authority.
This facility serves as a cornerstone of Ames' commitment to addressing homelessness, providing both immediate relief and long-term pathways to stability.
